Welcome to Craig Forster's "Gallery of the Field".
Artist, educator, environmentalist, host and community activist, Craig
has been identified with the Mornington Peninsula and the "Gallery of
the Field" for more than twenty years.
The number and extent of Craig's community and environmental
initiatives and projects reflects, as does his paintings, Craig's love
of the Mornington Peninsula. His many educational, environmental and
philanthropic projects include founding the Work Experience Program, the
Mornington Peninsula and Westernport Biosphere Reserve under the
UNESCO's Man and Biosphere Charter and the Friends of Los Palos of East
Timor.
"Gallery of the Field" has been Craig's permanent exhibition space since
1986 doubling as his studio until recently.
After qualifying as an Art Teacher in Victoria, Australia Craig's first
studio was in Canterbury, Melbourne from 1962 until 1970.
He moved his studio to Canberra, A.C.T. in 1973 and returned to
Melbourne to start his third studio in 1983 from which "Gallery of the
Field" was founded.
While now exhibiting permanently at "Gallery of the Field" he has also
generally exhibited once or twice a year at other galleries and in group
exhibitions around Australia since the 1960's.
In 2005 Craig exhibited at three other galleries during 2005. The "Art
of Tsumani" hung at the Frankston Art Centre from the 23rd of March
until the 2nd of May, the "Sweetwater Creek" hung at Florish Cafe from
4th of September until the 19th of September and the "Hilary Walks" hung
in the Kingston Gallery from the 20th of October until the 7th of November.
These paintings are collected on the Gallery of the Field's website as
the "Wave Series", the "Coast Series", the "Land Series", the
"Sweetwater Creek" series, the "Peninsula Coast Series" and the
"Mornington Park Series" altogether about 70 paintings.
They will be joined during 2006 by two more series based on his images
of the beautiful Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.
The "Gallery of the Field" and its widespread supporters has also
initiated fundraising exhibitions of local artists for many local
charities and Amnesty International over the years.
